Could divorce give you a chance for a creative rebirth?

On Behalf of | May 13, 2021 | Divorce |

When your spouse files for divorce, it feels like the end of the world. You have been trying to create this life that you always envisioned, with a spouse, children, a home, a career, etc — and now it’s falling apart.

Don’t think of it this way. Instead, think of divorce as a chance to reinvent yourself, to have a creative rebirth. This is your chance to make your life into whatever you want it to be.

Is it time to take a look at how your marriage and your spouse held you back?

Your spouse may not have intentionally prevented you from doing what you wanted, but you had to consider their desires, as well. This may have changed your life because you were always “thinking for two,” instead of pursuing your dreams.

For instance, perhaps you always had a dream to travel the world. Your spouse, though, liked to stay home and relax, and they always told you they were scared of flying. You put your own plans on hold and settled for short road trips near home when you went on vacation.

Or, maybe you always liked writing novels, recording songs, painting pictures or something else creative. Your spouse had a high standard of living, though, so you put these hobbies aside to spend more time at the office to earn the money they felt they needed.

In both situations, divorce could be your chance to really embrace who you are. Be creative. Think outside the box. Anything really is possible, and you’re now free to make all of your own choices. This is the end of your marriage, but it’s the start of something new.

Navigating the legal process of divorce

Naturally, the legal outcome of the divorce plays a role in what your future looks like. Be sure you know what steps to take to protect your interests. It’s wisest to speak with an experienced attorney as soon as you start contemplating divorce.
